Video: BeautyEditor.ca reviews Chanel’s Fall 2010 Makeup Collection (“Les Contrastes de Chanel”)

Time for another video! This time I tackle a collection at the opposite end of the makeup spectrum from Joe Fresh—I’m talking about Chanel’s fall makeup collection.

I know this stuff is definitely a splurge, but honestly? This is one of the nicest shade ranges I’ve ever seen from Chanel (and as a beauty editor, I’ve been exposed to most of their seasonal collections over the years).

This one is super-wearable—I think for any skin tone but most of all for people like me with a cooler, pinker complexion.

Here’s what I mean—check out the visual for the collection:

10 little tips for getting awesomely sexy, feline, Angelina-esque eyes

Posted: August 28th, 2010 | Author: jfalcon | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

I might take issue with Angelina Jolie’s weight problem* (or lack thereof—will you LOOK at those skeletal, veiny arms?), but in the eye makeup department, she always, always nails it.

* Is she just skinny or is it something more sinister? If you read Blind Items Exposed, it’s definitely the latter…

But anyway! I’ve been trying—and failing, really—to replicate Ange’s feline, winged-out eyes for AGES now.

To the rescue: Toronto-based makeup artist David Goveia, whose concealer trick I mentioned yesterday and who is basically DA MAN when it comes to simple, subtle, easy makeup that is sort of barely detectable but instantly makes you look 1,000 times better.

Considering bangs? Blunt, straight-across ones are the way to go—not only were they on the runway at Lanvin, but they’re all over the (very fashionable) Flare office. Cute staff pics! [Flare]

One Open Plan, Two Ways to Use the Space

open dining layout

We often repeat some layout elements from one home to the next. We do it by preference and sometimes by habit. It is OK to repeat them as long as they still fit your lifestyle. Even with almost the same floor plan, no two persons will use the space exactly the same way. My open kitchen/dining plan shared similarities with the house I grew up as a teenager. Still we used the space very differently.

My mother would serve all the family meals at our spacious counter. My mother, who was working and still managed to cook our three daily meals, designed that house to reduce the amount of steps she needed to serve us. We would eat in the dining room every Sunday, on holidays and when my parents entertained.

Kitchen Stools

counter culture

Like most people these days, my husband and I always eat at the dining table. Even when I eat breakfast alone, I will sit at the dining table. For us, the counter area with stools is a conversation area. I like it when my husband and my guests sit at the counter while I cook dinner.

So, what’s about you? Do you eat every day in the kitchen or in the dining room? What is the relationship between your kitchen and your dining room?

See? Bangs ARE big—Kim Kardashian just got ‘em. Oh, and Hilary Duff went red

That’s it—I hereby declare bangs an Official Hair Trend. Kim Kardashian just got hers, and before that I was drooling over Sienna’s (so much so that I got my own). And before THAT, they were on the runway at Lanvin.

Clearly, I need to head back to the hairdresser to get mine touched up now—they just grow so darn FAST!

Anyway—what do you think of Kim’s version?

Festive Craft Letters

party letters made with wrapping paper glued on craft letters

Decorating craft letters for a birthday party is an alternative or a complement to birthday banners. They can be used to label a station. Display them on a shelf, a buffet table or hang them from the ceiling.

I saw those at Paper Source yesterday. They glued a combination of decorative papers to create beautiful festive craft letters. They recommend PVA glue for this craft project.  I love it!

I like my Cool Feet

I did not test if the Cool Feet really keeps my laptop cooler ; although the fan starts [...] For more visit AtHomeWithKimVallée.

Crystal Renn at LG Fashion Week Fall 2010

Crystal Renn at LG Fashion Week in Toronto_photo by Janine FalconTurns out beauty editors are as fascinated with 23-year-old Crystal Renn as everyone else is. Backstage at LG Fashion Week, a crew of beauty types crowded around Renn as she sat for makeup and hair before the Fall/Winter 2010 Joe Fresh show Wednesday evening. We discovered she uses eye cream (she likes Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash and occasionally uses RoC), is obsessed with her brows (“do you think we could fill in this part here a little?” she asked makeup pro Eddie Malter as she pointed to the the beginning of her left brow)….
